Since only the Son knows the Father—that is, only those who recognize themselves as the Son truly know and recognize the Father as Father—it follows that a reciprocity is established here between the Father and the Son that pairs the asymmetry of origin with the co-originary symmetry of the free and total gift.
Not only because the Father gives everything to the Son, but because the Father is Father, while the Son knows and recognizes Him as such. Such reciprocity does not replicate itself, but is intentionally open and communicated in the same way.
It is a reciprocity that occurs in the very act of sparking and communicating the dynamics of freedom and gratuity in which it is expressed, according to the purpose of the prayer: no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. But… what does the Son communicate? From the early centuries, there were those who traced this novelty back to both the Father and the Son, so that what was revealed by Jesus was their mutual relationship.
As the Pauline and Johannine traditions show, this is given thanks to the Holy Spirit. From this, all are brothers and sisters, and must remain so, without being able to claim any form of privilege or superiority.
