Emmanuel Gabellieri

Emmanuel Gabellieri is a French philosopher born in Nice on December 27, 1957. He is married and the father of three children. He earned the Agrégation in Philosophy in 1987 and the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) in Philosophy from the University of Nice in 1997, followed by a Canonical Doctorate in Philosophy from the Catholic Institute of Paris in 2007.

After teaching in secondary schools and preparatory classes (1982–1992), he was a full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Catholic University of Lyon from 1992 to 2024. He is currently professor emeritus at the same faculty, having served as Dean (2005–2014) and Vice-Rector for Research at UCLy (2016–2020). Founder of the J. Vialatoux Archives, annexed to the J. Lacroix Fund in 2004, he launched a publication program on the Lyon school of social Catholicism, co-founded GRACE (Research Group in Christian Anthropology and Business) in 2011, and directed CRESO (Research Center on Social Entrepreneurship) from 2016 to 2020.

His main research areas, following significant work on the writings of Simone Weil and Maurice Blondel, have expanded to include the debate on the “theological turn” in French phenomenology and the proposal of a “metaxology” aimed at transcending the dilemma between phenomenology and metaphysics. His current research seeks to articulate “metaxology” and Trinitarian ontology to develop a new onto-phenomenology and renew our understanding of the “polarity” between philosophy and theology.

He was a professor at the Seminary of Ars (1990–2006), an expert for AVEPRO (2009–2024), and has been a member of the academic body of the Catholic Academy of France since 2016.
