Giulio Maspero

Giulio Maspero is an Italian theologian and physicist, born in Como on March 19, 1970. A Full Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, he is also an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Theology (PATH) and the Association Internationale des Études Patristiques (AIEP).

After attending classical high school in Como, he earned a degree in Physics and a PhD in theoretical physics, with scientific publications in the field of quantum chaos. Subsequently, he began his theological studies, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in 2000 and a Licentiate and Doctorate in Theology from the University of Navarra in 2003.

His main research areas include the history of dogma, patristics—with a particular focus on Gregory of Nyssa—and the relationship between philosophy and theology. In recent years, he has focused on the study of relational ontology and trinitarian anthropology.

In addition to his academic work, Maspero is known for his commitment to ecumenical dialogue. He has promoted initiatives to overcome historical divisions between Churches, as highlighted in the “Re-Thinking the Filioque” seminar organized by the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.

He is also a member of the board of the Relational Ontology Research Group (ROR), based at the same university, which focuses on developing philosophical-theological thought oriented toward relations.
